@aaronrobbins . We are so bummed, we lost track of time and missed your class. I am sure it was packed with useful information, sorry we missed it. Look forward to hearing from you about starting up the groups.
Hey Monica –ya we missed you guys too. It was a little smaller class but still went pretty well. I’ll get the notes posted here sometime today and contact you by email in the next couple of days about how/when new groups formation is going to work.
We have a special weekend coming up at Bayside, one that my group is helping out with quite a lot, so all things are kind of on hold right now until the 1st.

Hey aaron,
Know of a good place to get a computer fixed? My laptop is not working and the company where I bought it went out of business.
Hey John. I’ll check with our IT guys and reply back here.
Hey John, glad to see ya in class last night. Ted, our IT Director, suggested Laptop Connections in Rancho Cordova on Sunrise near Coloma. I think this is it: http://local.yahoo.com/info-21746774-ksi-s-laptop-connection-rancho-cordova

Do you have a blog? What’s the address? What blogging platform are you using. If you are a plugin addict, like myself, which plugins could you not live without?
I use blogger http://mrandrewbradley.blogspot.com/ … as for plug-ins and tools I embed my Twitter feed, use Feedjit and Google Analytics for tracking, and LinkWithin for some added fun. Overall my blog is much more of a personal journal and way to share pictures, but it does include reviews and other nuggets of good information (including upcoming Bayside events).
I use Wordpress and have for about 4 years. I love it. http://www.cjalvarado.com
I use Tumblr. So far so good. It’s pretty simple to use and has templates to choose from. It would be nice to have some more customizable options. But I would recommend it for someone new to blogging. http://www.amberconrad.com

I am going to be working on my first blog this week..Not sure of the content as of yet but I am going to give it a try.
That’s great John. Let us know when it’s up. What platform are you going to use?
As far content/topic goes . . .it always a tough one. The most effective blogs focus on one topic or industry. Being that you would spend a lot of time thinking about and writing about this topic it should usually be something that you are passionate about. Doesn’t have to be something you are an expert on either. It seems like blogs shake out this way:
1. Blog as an expert. The goal is to inform and lead
2. Blog about the journey to becoming an expert. The goal is to show process/growth
3. Blog as an ex-expert. The goal is to show you having nothing to gain from the industry anymore so you don’t mind exposing everything about it (be careful with this one)
4. Blog as a creator. The goal is to share what you make.
5. Blog as a reviewer. The goal is to share thoughts on what others have made.Anyway, just some general ramblings on blogging.
John that’s great. Our community may be able to lend a hand if you are open to it. What are you passionate about?
I am open to help. What I am passionate about? That is a good question. I am passionate about movies, dealing with a parent with PTSD.
Thanks for sharing John. I think both make good topics for a blog but I’ll throw my 2 cents in on some of the deeper issues:
Your target audience for a movie type blog is huge, everyone watches movies. Unfortunately, since it’s such a huge audience, you would have competition to get ”noticed” from thousands of other websites. If getting ”noticed” doesn’t matter too much and you really love talking about movies, then go for it. Your passion and personal view point will probably be enough to earn you a loyal readership.
With that said, the PTSD is way more interesting an idea to me. Why? It’s a smaller community of people that are likely to use the internet to look for information/support/help and so on. Other people who are in a similar situation as you could really benefit form you experiences, views, struggles an thoughts. I think there would be a greater possibility to spread hope through this type of blog.
Again, both are good, there’s just something about being vulnerable and transparent about having a parent with PTSD thats sounds like it could really transform your readers lives. Being transparent and vulnerable online is another topic all together.
Hope that helped.
Arron thanks for the advice. I think I am going to do the PTSD idea.
@jgabel How’s the blog coming? Any questions so far?

Hey guys, maybe it would be cool to have a way to link my latest twitter updates to my profile page.
Ya, I love that idea. There’s a couple different ways we could go about doing that and a few technical things to work out (twitter wouldn’t let us constantly poll their api for updates, we’d be limited to 150’ish requests an hour, so we’d have to do some caching or inlining or something.) Great ideas, keep um coming.

Hi Aaron. It was a great class tonight. Thanks for all the information. I think I remember in last weeks class you mentioned you want to begin a social media ministry through the church website. Please talk about that again. What are your thoughts and purpose for this ministry? What are you wanting to accomplish in this ministry?
Hey Ronda. Thanks and thanks for attending class 2. I don’t remember saying that specifically, but I don’t remember anything that I said, so I totally may have
I did talk about this website MyBayside.com being the social media/ministry hub for Bayside. The short objectives for a site like this would be to:1. Connect the body together using technology (on demand)
2. Share our experiences, passions and needs (organic relationships)
3. Grow in our knowledge of Christ and his purpose for our lives/ministrr=y (discipleship)So, another way of stating my objectives might be: ”On demand, organic, discipleship” or ”On demand, organic, ministry formation”
Off the cuff what I would be looking to accomplish is:
Long term, mobilization and empowerment of the body to facilitate niche ministry which reaches the long tail of both believers and non-believers.
Again, these are just kind of off the top of my head thoughts. What are your thoughts on a social media ministry?
Thanks very much for answering. I was just trying to come up with ideas, since I am still learning about social media, how a tool like this can be used for help of the Body (the church), outreach to the community and the world. Especially since the internet is world wide. It appears social media/network is or can be a very powerful tool. How can the church (not just Bayside but the Body of Christ) use this tool.
Great questions Ronda. I think it’s important at some point to distinguish between the tools (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) and the effects those tools can have on ministry. The tools themselves will change over time and be replaced by newer more effective ones. The stuff you are trying to do with those tools will hopefully not change.
With that said I have three objectives I’m interested in exploring here on MyBayside.com. First, allow ministry groups to be created more organically. Second, allow the content and connections of those group to be accessed anytime from anywhere. Third, provide for a framework by which an organic, on demand group can raise funds and resources to reach out to other groups and individuals.

@mjdrums New drumming group created for you. Once you join the group I will make you the admin. First, step will be to change the group description to something more fitting than what I wrote. I will have one of our copywriters, @emilys, contact you so she can write something up based on your input.

Lots of irons in the fire at Bayside but I’m very excited for what’s on the horizon.

Waiting for my 3GS to die before going to a 4. This is a PR debacle for apple. They need to approach this phone issue better than Toyota did or they’ll loose more market share to Google Android!
Agreed. I’m super interested to see what happens at 10:30 today. Everyone who sees my iphone 4 seems surprised it can actually make calls, which is a gross distortion of the problem, but the media has really torn into Apple on this one, so ya, Jobs has to do something.
your phone does not make calls. you need to stop over exaggerating!
hahaha
Summary of the issue according to Steve.
1. All smartphones do this (he showed examples of the same behavior on RIM, Android Phones . . . )
2. Apple’s mistakes were two fold A) screwed up the signal display algorithm B)The gap design showed users exactly where to hold the phone to produce the problem.
3. Free Cases for All . . . ya!Apple needs to stop doing this: ”No, there really isn’t a brake problem with our cars…Toyota Motor Company”.
just got my 4 today… so much nicer than 3GS!
Once you go retina display, you can never go back . . .man, I wish that’d rhymed.
it emotionally rhymed.
i think Jobs is saying they screwed up, but also that everybody is blowing it out of proportion. the only place i’ve ever dropped a call with my iphone 4 is at the bayside offices, which drops calls from any phone
if i have a strong signal, the signal does not change no matter how i hold it…
