Learning about how important traffic is to websites, blogs etc. Good content is great, but without traffic…it is all dead in the water. Soooo, looking how to bring traffic into our websites!!!
Awesome comment Monica. Traffic generation is a highly debated topic and one you can spend a good number of years studying. I’ll give ya my 2 minute take on it. Traffic roughly comes from four sources: Search Engines, Links on other sites, social media and bookmarks/directly typing in address/word of mouth.
Ranking well in search engines is still probably the biggest consistent source of traffic. This is why people spend thousands of dollars on SEO (which may or may not work). In short post a lot of quality content on your site’s blog using titles and information that people tend to search for with in your industry.
If you write quality content people should start linking to it, which has a ton of traffic benefits. If they don’t start searching for other blogs or social profiles that are in your industry or complimentary to your industry. Comment on these related blogs articles, ask if you can do a guest article on their site, let them do a guest article on your site.
Social media can either be a huge source of traffic or a complete waste. Best thing to do is monitor twitter and facebook for people talking about the same things you are and try and team up with them.
In all these things, the best strategy is to be patient, genuine and helpful. Don’t ask for links, Don’t tell people to read your blog. Don’t ask for a retweet. Unfortunately, its not a quick think, it can take 6 months to 2 years of doing the above every single day before you start seeing sustainable traffic.
Best of luck.
Thanks so much. I just need to keep reaching out to others with what I have to offer. I just want to be of service to others, so patience is needed! One step at a time:> I love using posterous for my blogs!

In Class 3 we talked about Phreaking and how it was like hacking but mostly related to the phone industry. Here’s an interesting an article about a guy who made some equipment capable of acting like an AT&T cell tower.

I enjoyed the class last night and I am looking forward to learning more next week! Thank you Aaron and team!
Glad you enjoyed the class Sigrid. I had fun talking with everyone. So . . .next week, what would you be most excited to talk/learn about? Twitter, Facebook, Starting a Blog. using social news sites?
Aaron, I am not very adventurous when it comes to the computer. I send and answer emails (I’m old school, you know?), I’m on Facebook and I recently started a Twitter account (The morning after your last class just because my husband said I should), I follow a couple of blogs done by family members (I am not interested in having a blog of my own) and online free games. I figure that I have a lot to learn and hope I can retain some info from your class by listeneing and asking questions if i have any. My husband is the computer wiz in our home and i defer difficulties to him all the time.
Looking forward to learning from you and your team.

I enjoyed attending the SM class last night. SM is exciting because it is so new! I love being a part of something that can connect people in such a ”techy” way. Thank you Aaron for sharing your kind energy and passion with all of us.
Hey Monica. Glad to see ya on MyBayside. It was really fun hanging out with everyone and talking tech, ministry and subway
Are you coming to class 2? We are going to be digging into blogging, twitter and facebook.Do any of the topics interest you more than the other? From what you know about social media so far, what are you most likely to do, start a blog, tweet, make some facebook connections . . . .something else?Yes, we are coming to class 2! Currently, I have a word press blog, twitter, linkedin and facebook. My husband and I are listening to modules on how to become Social Media Managers.

social media fascinates me. I can’t ever remember my life without it. @aaronRobbins did a great job pointing out that it’s not about the technology. It’s about connecting people to God and to each other using new tools. I happened to catch some of the video. Your going to want to watch this. Especially you android users. http://yfrog.us/1283lz

Great first class tonight. Thanks to everyone who came out. I will be posting my raw unedited notes to the documents tab above sometime tomorrow. If you have questions on what we talked about this is the place to ask them. I know @ninaboatman and @garrettboatman got some of the class on video, so maybe we’ll post that too just for fun.
