    Learning about how important traffic is to websites, blogs etc. Good content is great, but without traffic…it is all dead in the water. Soooo, looking how to bring traffic into our websites!!!

      Awesome comment Monica. Traffic generation is a highly debated topic and one you can spend a good number of years studying. I’ll give ya my 2 minute take on it. Traffic roughly comes from four sources: Search Engines, Links on other sites, social media and bookmarks/directly typing in address/word of mouth.

      Ranking well in search engines is still probably the biggest consistent source of traffic. This is why people spend thousands of dollars on SEO (which may or may not work). In short post a lot of quality content on your site’s blog using titles and information that people tend to search for with in your industry.

      If you write quality content people should start linking to it, which has a ton of traffic benefits. If they don’t start searching for other blogs or social profiles that are in your industry or complimentary to your industry. Comment on these related blogs articles, ask if you can do a guest article on their site, let them do a guest article on your site.

      Social media can either be a huge source of traffic or a complete waste. Best thing to do is monitor twitter and facebook for people talking about the same things you are and try and team up with them.

      In all these things, the best strategy is to be patient, genuine and helpful. Don’t ask for links, Don’t tell people to read your blog. Don’t ask for a retweet. Unfortunately, its not a quick think, it can take 6 months to 2 years of doing the above every single day before you start seeing sustainable traffic.

      Best of luck.

        Thanks so much. I just need to keep reaching out to others with what I have to offer. I just want to be of service to others, so patience is needed! One step at a time:> I love using posterous for my blogs!

    @aaronrobbins . We are so bummed, we lost track of time and missed your class. I am sure it was packed with useful information, sorry we missed it. Look forward to hearing from you about starting up the groups.

      Hey Monica –ya we missed you guys too. It was a little smaller class but still went pretty well. I’ll get the notes posted here sometime today and contact you by email in the next couple of days about how/when new groups formation is going to work.

      We have a special weekend coming up at Bayside, one that my group is helping out with quite a lot, so all things are kind of on hold right now until the 1st.

    @aaronrobbins Hello Aaron
    I am interested in starting a blog for Recovery from Eating Disorders. How do I get this started and who do I talk to?

      Are you interested in starting a group here at MyBayside or a blog somewhere else? If you’re looking for a group, we’d want to make it private, meaning people would need ask to join the group, secondly we’d want to make sure you were equipped and had the tools/support you needed to facilitate this group. Let me know what you are thinking and then we can discuss next stop over the phone or at Bayside.

        I want to start a group for Eating Disorder recovery. I want to create a safe space for women to connect and share their feelings about what they are experiencing. I believe God wants me to help other people who have suffered with an Eating Disorder or thriving in their recovery from an Eating Disorder. This is my first attempt at a ministry, so I am open for guidance and support to follow this calling. So, I pray that I can have this opportunity to be an extension of God’s word.

          Sounds great Monica. Let me talk to our communications pastor and the community care pastor and I we will pick up the conversation by email. Due to scheduling and vacations it’ll probably be the end of next before I have more information.

      Hey Monica. Glad to see ya on MyBayside. It was really fun hanging out with everyone and talking tech, ministry and subway :) Are you coming to class 2? We are going to be digging into blogging, twitter and facebook.Do any of the topics interest you more than the other? From what you know about social media so far, what are you most likely to do, start a blog, tweet, make some facebook connections . . . .something else?
